Centuries ago, household pests were the cause of illness and death in developed nations. Most people would like to think that through technological and scientific advances, we’d have found a way to eradicate all household pests. However, the reality is that anyone’s home can become infested with a host of pests in a matter of weeks if steps are not taken to prevent them. Continue reading

6 Tips to Help with Natural Disaster Preparedness
How to be Prepared for Natural Disasters
By Michelle Lim
In today’s world, there are a lot of reasons to worry about natural disasters. After watching the recent storm, Hurricane Sandy, hurl through the states of New York and New Jersey, many people are wondering if they are prepared for a natural disaster. Millions of people lost power in Hurricane Sandy and a lot of people were turned out of their homes, many of which have been destroyed. Some people were caught entirely unprepared, while others seemed to fare better. Some of this is luck – if your home was in Sandy’s path it was not due to lack of preparation – but for some people, the right preparation made all the difference. Continue reading
Networking in an Emergency
Hello readers! Emma here, and I just want to apologize for my lack of posting lately. As a quick update, things have been very hectic around here. I am happy to say that all of our little Jack Russell puppies found their new homes and they are doing wonderfully with their new families. My husband and I are expecting our first baby, a little boy, in February next year, so that has been keeping us extremely busy (especially since we found out that our little guy has some very serious complications.) Other than that, I haven’t been blogging too much, just occasionally updating a blog that I have about subluxing peroneal tendons (for which I have had surgery twice) and writing an occasional update on the blog at proformcoupon.com.
You may remember a post that I featured a few months ago from Sequoia Scott who has an adorable and informative blog over at sequoiasgarden.blogspot.com. She knows that I have been unable to write for this site, and she graciously has written up another guest post to be featured here! Her topic is especially relevant in light of the recent Hurricane Sandy. Thousands of people were reliant on the help of their neighbors, communities, and emergency responders. It is always important to be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your neighbors so that you can be better prepared yourself. And if you are constantly working towards self improvement you can be an asset to many when disaster strikes. Enjoy this wonderful post from Sequoia, and don’t forget to check out her blog and follow it so that you don’t miss out on any of her wisdom in the future!

Whether you are driving across an expansive high way interstate or if you are trekking through the unknown wilderness of unknown-land, you are going to need these three items:
7 Ways to Amass A Money Reserve
Keep A Finances Journal
A record of your financial history is meant to do one thing- keep you accountable. It will explicitly show you where your excess money is being squandered. No more buying Snickers on your way to and from work, even though it is just a dollar a day it adds up to thirty dollars a month or 360 dollars in a year! That is enough money to buy a small refrigerator or a brand new television.
A record of our expenses will show us where we need to tighten our leaks. Sometimes that means saying good bye to treats. Continue reading

Guest Post: Do As I Say, Not As I Did!
Sometimes you stumble across a blog that steals your heart. This was definitely the case when I found Sequoia’s blog. (There is a link to it at the bottom of this guest post! You must check it out!) She is an amazing writer, and the topics covered on her blog go right along with everything that I feel is important. Not to mention that she always has wonderful pictures to accompany each post!
This guest post that she has so wonderfully supplied for my blog is amazing. She highlights the importance of financial security. This is a MUST for those hoping to work on being prepared. If you don’t have your finances in order, you can not think seriously about getting ready for the future. The thing that makes her post so credible is that it is the true story of what happened to her family several years ago. She has applied principles from Dave Ramsey, who I am a huge supporter of. Enjoy this awesome post, and take her advice to heart! Continue reading
