What to Put In Your 72-hour Kit – Infographic!

Floods, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, and Fires. Being prepared for an emergency situation can save your life. Many people are prepared with food storage, but that won’t always cut it. If a natural disaster strikes, you and your family may need to leave at a moment’s notice. Having a bag packed with everything you need for 3 days would come in handy!

Here’s a list of what you should include in your 72-hour kit:

Food. Canned goods, granola bars, protein bars, trail mix, dried fruit, and nuts.

Water. You need 1 -1.5 gallons per person a day. For a single-person 72-hour kit, 4 gallons is ideal. Don’t use milk jugs because the plastic is porous and may absorb contaminants over time. Use plastic (you’ll need about 6 of the 2-Liter soda bottles)

Clothes. Keep a variety of clothes in there: socks, jeans, underwear, T-shirts, and jackets.

Bedding. A reflective emergency blanket is perfect. It keeps you warm and can be used as a signal.

Personal Documents. Keep photocopies of: birth certificate, insurance policies, Driver’s License/State ID, Social Security Card, and Immunization records.

Money. Keep around $20 in change (ex. 1 ten, 1 five, 4 ones, and 4 quarters)

Flashlight. Don’t forget to pack extra batteries!

Medication. Keep 3 days’ worth of medication in your kit, as well as any emergency medication.

Don’t forget these last few items that are easy to forget about, but have just as much importance!

Cups, plates, lighter, candles, utensils, can opener, and a portable radio.

Now you’re ready! Your 72-hour kit is complete….

All you need to do now is put everything into a duffel bag!
